Kruger Farms

Writer's picture: BexBex

Kruger Farms was our second day-trip outside of Eldoret. The park is a large piece of land owned by a South African couple. The farm has a total of around 13-14 giraffes, but is largely a functional farm for maize and other crops. The scenery was akin to my backyard in southern Indiana, but there were a few more giraffes and impalas here.

We walked around the farm for an hour or so and finally found 6 (!!!) giraffes in one of the plowed corn fields. We were able to walk pretty close to the family of giraffes (twiga in Swahili) and got about 100 yards away. It was amazing to be able to see the twigas so close! They were so graceful and beautiful.

In addition to the giraffes, we also hiked up the small peak located within the park. After about 30min of straight uphill (seems to be a theme here, huh?), we reached the top. The views of the farm were beautiful and we managed to see the same giraffe family from afar.

Thanks for reading!
